Flottstad

Our Story

Flottstad is our peaceful Swedish home, hidden in the forests of Northern Värmland. We share it with a limited number of guests who enjoy quiet and who will look after the house.

We did not set out to fill a calendar. We found a place we love: the light, the weather, the animals that sometimes pass through, and the feeling of leaving everyday life behind.

The story behind the name

For centuries, timber from the forests of Northern Värmland was sent downstream on the Klarälven. The river carried it towards Karlstad and the industries further south. Vildmark i Värmland describes the Klarälven as the last river in Sweden where commercial timber floating continued, until 1991.

According to the local history passed down to us, Flottstad was once a stopping place connected with this timber-floating tradition.

Today the timber is gone from the river, but the peaceful character of this part of Sweden remains.
